AID TO SERVICEMEN

Equipment and Tools NEW REHABILITATION SERVICE WELLINGTON, Nov. 18. The announcement of new arrangements for the supply of tools and equipment to ex-servicemen for occupational purposes is made by the Rehabilitation Board. The Board has taken over the former Army mechanical transport store in ’Cable Street, Wellington, and is stocking it with suitable tools 1 and equipment purchased from the War Assets Realisation Board for direct sale to ex-servicemen. Although for administrative purposes the store is under the control of the Wellington District Rehabilitation Officer, its services are designed to meet the needs of ex-servicemen throughout the Dominion, and the bulk of its business will be 'done through a spec - ial mail-order system. Stocks held in the store will be sold to ex-servicemen for only specified purposes—for setting up, re-opening or maintaining businesses in which servicemen have at least a half share, or for callings which definitely require their use. The store will not sell items for household purposes, nor will it sell to ex-servicemen for subsequent retail. An ex-serviceman wishing to purchase from the store will first have to establish his bona fide on these points at his local Rehabilitation Office; and no servicemen will be able to deal with the store until he has secured this recommendation. At the same time he will be informed how to secure goods by the special mail order service, as in general it will not be necessary to visit the store unless there is some special selection difficulty. The stock held by the store will include tools’ of trade, light machine tools, and equipment, and general items such as typewriters, bicycles, saddles and any releases from the armed services through the War Assets Realisation Board for which there is found a demand. Previously existing arrangements for purchase of heavy equipment and of stock for retail, direct from the War Assets Realisation Board are not altered by the establishment of the tool store.
