ABSENTEE FIREMEN

DELAY TO VESSEL P.A. AUCKLAND, Sept. 12. A British steamer, the Romney, waited at anchor in the stream for more than nine hours to-day while attempts were made to find three missing firemen. The Romney is on charter to carry wheat from Sydney to Auckland. She was ready to leave for Sydney at seven o’clock this morning. At 8 a.m. she moved to the anchorage to wait for missing members of the crew. Two went aboard during the afternoon, and a third, a fireman, was found to replace the remaining missing man. The ship sailed about 5,30 p.m.
