WAR PRODUCTION
United States Prepares WAR FOOTING WITHIN 24 HOURS. (Rec. 7.40) WASHINGTON, Aug. 25. A gigantic network of industrial plants is being mobilised by the Army and Navy Munitions Board, ready to convert the United States to a wai’ footing within 24 hours. Reliable sources report that the board is speeding up plans for a tightly integrated system, giving the nation a virtual push-button mobilisation in the event of war. The programme is the result of repeated warnings from military sources that if there was another war, the United States would be hit suddenly. Full war production under the plan will be achievable in days, insteads of months. Stand-by plants could begin to roll within a few hours.
