RUGBY LEAGUE

Main Match Abandoned GROUND UNFIT FOR PLAY The main match at Wingham Park between Kohinoor and Ngahere yesterday was abandoned a few minutes before half-time, because of the squally conditions and the heavy field. At the commencement of play the ground was in a waterlogged condition, and several patches resembled a bog. Flying mud from the players' boots and players going down on the ball often made it impossible to recognise players. For Ngahere, Smith and A. Gibson played well in the backs, while J. Gibson and D. McVicar were tireless workers in the pack. Gracie and Messenger were the best of the Kohinoor pack. Sweetman and. Mann played good defensive games in the backs'. THE PLAY At the commencement of play, Ngahere attacked with a good back run, taking play to Kohinoor’s 25, but Mann, using the wind, relieved with a touch-finder to .take play deep into Ngahere’s territory. The blue pack with the ball at their toe, carried play to half-way, where A. Gibson broke through a gap, and handed on to Mulcare. who beat three men to score wide out. Smith missed the kick. A solo rush by Gracie put Kohinoor on attack, and from a set scrum near the line. Hahn miskicked, and Butler, dribbling over the line, touched down. McKenzie’s kick missed. McSeveny, gathering the ball in his own 25, relieved with a good run to half-way. but Ngahere set up a hot attack, play finishing up on the Kohinoor line, where they were penalised while attempting to clear their line. Smith missed an easy kick. The game at this stage was abandoned. the score being, Kohinoor 3— Ngahere 3. Mr J. P. Mathews was referee.
