RECORD FLIGHT OF ARIES
Records seem to be the order of the day. Saturday brought another very important record, that of the aircraft “Aries” to the notice of the people of the world, and more especially to the people of New Zealand. During tlic war years they were brought very close to the people of Britain, and the Dominion’s war effort was truly a record, but New Zealand can stnl place another record to its credit. The Famine Emergency Committee are launching a huge coupon drive, commencing to-day (Monday), and lasting the full week. To help this drive, much information is being made public. In addition to broadcasts, appeals at pictures and public meetings, the Committee has interested all of the Women’s Institutes and _ other organisations in the country districts, and has been promised their full support. There will be a booth outside Harley’s, in Mackay Street, on Wednesday and Friday, where ladies. will receive coupons. At all other times during the week coupons may be left either at Harley's or at the Post Office. One thing about these coupons is not generally known: All old, unused coupons are valuable and should be handed in. This is very important, but it is not generally known. Greymouth’s 'record of coupons saved has hitherto been very poor, and the Committee is working hard to try and improve the district record. A record can easily be gained if one meat coupon per book is surrendered for this appeal. The Committee asks for everyone’s full support during the coming week. Given this. Greymouth and district Will be proud to'be included in the message going back with the “Aries 1 ” that New Zealand has made a really magnificent contribution towards allowing the British people some extra meat to add to their very meagre rations. The Committee’s motto is: “Come one! Come all! Let's be in this record this week! Remember, one coupon per book will not be missed!”
