WATAROA NOTES

„ (Our Own Correspondent). Mr. R. NoJan who has been visiting Hokitika, for health reasons, has returned home. Mr. W. Steele of Dalgety and Co. and Mr. Gaffaney of the Canterbury Frozen Meat Department, were visitors to Wataroa last week. Mr. A. Stevens, has been appointed caretaker at the Wataroa school. Mr. and Mrs. E. Nolan, were recent passengers by plane to Okuru. Mr. R. Condon who has been on holiday has returned. Passengers by Wednesday’s service to Wataroa were Messrs A. Stevens, L. Cutbert, T. Nolan, J. Paganini, and Mrs. M. Byrne. Miss D. Giles, Postmistress at Wataroa, is at present on annual leave. A social afternoon, in the form of a kitchen tea, was held at the residence of Mrs. A. K. Vincent recently, the occasion being a presentation to Miss B. Giles, who is to be married in the near future. Master F. O’Connor, son of Mr. J. O’Connor, has been selected in the schoolboy league team to play at Auckland at the end of the month. . The National Mortgage Co. Ltd. is holding a sale comprising live and dead stock at Wataroa on August 24. The construction of the Waitangi traffic bridge is steadily progressing, but at.present a slight hold-up has retarded progress, due to a shortage of timber.
