HOKITIKA NOTES

[Our Own Correspondent]. HOKITIKA, August 12. The Gael, from Wellington, slipped into port at 9.30 h.m. on Saturday, just before the bar became unworkable. She will now sail for Jackson Bay. Twenty attended a meeting ,to reform the Hokitika Aero Club. The following officers were elected; Patrons, Hon. Jas. O’Brien and Mr A. R. Elcock (Mayor); president, Mr J. Stuart; . vice-presidents, Messrs P. Renton, W. J. Radford, S. J. Langford, M. B. James, S. Haussman, H. McKeon, C. Lewis, W..Dini, A. Johnstone, G. H. Key, H. B. Preston, K. Reece, and N. Suttie; management committee, Messrs S. Dalcom, P. Crough, F. Fraser, T. Carroll; secretary, Mr J. B. Watt; treasurer, Mr J. A. Hudson. The club has been dormant for the past six years. It was considered that a new aerodrome should be proceeded with at the earliest possible moment. Finance was dealt with, and arrangements were completed to handle the club’s activities.

At the monthly meeting of the Westland Hospital Board, it was resolved to support the new training scheme for household labour, and to co-operate by providing brighter uniforms. The chairman (Mr E. W. Heenan) said draft plans for a. new maternity home had arrived, and members would have an opportunity of discussing them within the next few days.'. An ex-patient forwarded a letter of thanks for treatment received in hospital. The Kokatahi Women’s Institute forwarded a rug for the Children’s Ward, and one and a-half dozen feeders were received from Ross Women’s Institute. Mr T. Growcott was appointed to .the grounds staff from four applicants. The Board discussed its inability to secure accommodation in the sanatoria for T.B. patients. It was decided to ask the Department of Health to send a medical inspector here at the earliest possible moment to discuss the position. If no beds were available at other institutions, the Board would have to provide an annexe at Westland Hospital. The Medical Superintendent (Dr. D. A. Arnott) asked the Board to give special consideration to the matter. The farm manager reported that during the month of July six tons of lime had been sown, and the sale of farm product amounted to £92 Us lid. Mr T. W. Duff left on Saturday morning for Christchurch,, where he will undergo an operationMrs C. M. Lyons, of Rakaia, is at present visiting Hokitika.
