[Our Own Correspondent!. HOKITIKA, June 25. A meeting of the Westland Rugby Football Sub-Union was held on Monday evening, Mr S. Moore presiding. It was decided that in view of the Coast-Buller match at Greymouth on Saturday, no fixtures would be played. A letter was received from the Referees’ Association, suggesting that the Union appoint-two members to the appointment committee, but it was decided io notify them that they had complete confidence in their Association, and did not desire to alter the existing arrangement. The selectors were instructed to pick two teams to play a trial match at Arahura over the week-end, and Mr J. W. Bennett was appointed as referee. ■kitika District High School were granted the use of the playing areas on Juljh 3, in order to play a match with the,Grey Technical School. It was decided to play a curtain-raiser, St. Mary’s v. Arahura fourth grade, to the trial game. An ambulance officer and Messrs T. Stuart and R. Roberts were asked to accompany the Dittman Shield team to Harihari. The selectors were instructed to select the junior representative team to play Greymouth at Hokitika'on Saturday, July 6, and it was decided that Mr R. Quinn's name be forwarded to the West Coast Union as a nominee selector to act with the Greymouth selectors when making the selection of the Coast junior representative team. On Monday evening, in the Princess Theatre, the Hon. J. O’Brien, Minister of Marine and Transport, addressed an audience of 250 people. The Mayor, Mr A. R. Elcock, presided. The Minister received an attentive hearing, and was frequently applauded. At the conclusion of the address, the Minister answered a number of questions, and was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for his address. Thanks were also accorded for his attention to the district’s requirements throughout a very difficult period. The Minister heard a number of deputations before leaving on his return to Greymouth. He left for Wellington by the express' on Tuesday morning.
