DUKE OF WINDSOR

LONDON, April 4. Rumours that the Duke of Windsor is contemplating residence in Southern Ireland have been current for some little time past. The rumours now take on a more definite form for it is suggested that he may shortly purchaes Lismore Castle from the Duke of Devonshire. In the nature of things it is not possible to obtain confirmation of reports of this kind in London, but the story appears to receive some acceptance in County Waterford. As a sporting centre Lismore is more closely identified with salmon fishing than with golf, but this would not trouble the Duke. Even when he was in residence at Balmoral lie habitually flew over the mountains for a round on the links at Nairn. Moreover, he is not nearly so keen on the game as he used to be, possibly because on the Riviera there are no links that come up to'our championship standard.

Lismore Castle is a baronial mansion erected by John as long ago as 1185, before which the small market town was repeatedly plundered by the Danes. In 1518 the manor was granted to Sir Walter Raleign.
