WOMAN SHOT
IN CHRISTCHURCH STREET Husband Arrested P.A. CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 14 A charge of attempted murder was laid in Christchurch to-night, against Francis Noel Harkness, a naval rating who is at present on leave, and whose address is 145 Southampton Street. The charge .was laid after his wife, Joyce Allison Harkness, living at 407 Selwyn Street, has been admitted to the Christchurch Public Hospital, suffering from gunshot wounds. The shooting occurred shortly after 1 o’clock this afternoon, at the corner of Southey and Colombo Streets. The police said to-night that the woman appeared to have been snot in the back.. Soon after the woman had been shot, Constable C. B. Scannell, of Sydenham Police Station, apprehended the accused, when he was riding a bicycle, and took him to the Christchurch Central Police Station for interrogation. Mrs. Harkness’s conditicp was stated to-night, to bo satisfactory. Harkness will appear in the Magistrate’s Court to-morrow morning. WOMAN’S CONDITION SERIOUS. P.A. CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 14. A Hospital report at 11 p m, stated that Mrs Harkness was on the seriously ill list.
