STOCKTON NOTES

(Our Own Correspondent) A dance was held in the Plaza Theatre on Friday last to welcome home Private J. Connew, who recently returned from Italy, and L.A.C. A. D. S'Wainson who served in the Pacific. Mr. J. Whisker on behalf of the Patriotic Committee presented both men with envelopes containing money, and in a very able manner made reference to the service they had rendered to their country. The Melody Ace Orchestra supplied the music. Messrs D. J. Rees and M. Berdinner were the M’sC. Mr. ana Mrs. W. Shearer left on Saturday to spend a holiday in Christchurch. Mrs. PI. L. Evans returned on Thursday last after an extended holiday in New Plymouth and Wellington. Mr. and Mrs. T. Barnes are holidaying in Christchurch. Mr. and Mrs. Whiskers, who had been on a tour of the North Island, travelled via Westport to spend a few days with their relatives in Stockton, Mr. and Mrs. J. Whiskers, before returning to their home ’.n Timaru. Arrangements are well in hand for a kitchen evening to be tendered to Mrs. Noel Stack in the school this (Thursday) evening. Mrs. Jack Berdinner and daughter, Ann, are spending a holiday with relatives in Christchurch. Mr. Kenneth Rees returned after a holiday spent with Mr./md Mrs. W. Rees of Christchurch. Private W. Morgan who returned by the “Orion” from Italy is spending leave with his mother, Mrs. JMorgan. Mr. and Mrs. Noel Stack who were recently married returned by air on Saturday from Nelson where the honeymoon was spent. Mr. N. Bettley, of Westport, was a visitor to the township last week and was the guest of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. Bettley. Mr. D. Scarlett lias returned from a holiday, spent in Christchurch. "
