REEFTON, February 13. Mr and Mrs E. T. Baird are spending holidays at Christchurch. Mr M. McPherson has left on return to Dunedin.

At a sitting of the Magistrate's Court, before Mr Raymond Ferner, S.M., the Maintenance Officer sued Mervyn James Parish for disobedience of a maintenance order in favour of his wife to the extent of £23 5s due up to October 31. 1945; also for disobedience of a maintenance order in respect of his two children to the extent, of £2B due up to October 31, 1945. —Convicted and sentenced ta three months’ imprisonment with hard labour in Faparua Prison on each charge; issue of warrants to be suspended on payment of £1 per week off arrears, in addition to current maintenance. Maintenance Officer v. Donald McMaster for disobedience of a maintenance order in favour of child to the extent of £2O 14s due up to January 28, 1946.—-Convicted and sentenced to two months’ imprisonment with hard labour in Paparua Prison; issue of warrant to be suspended on payment of £2 per week off, arrears, in addition to current maintenance. Poundkeeper v. Hannah Harriet Eva Banks, for being the owner of cattle found wandering and impounded.—Fined 30s, and costs 10s. Poundkeeper v. Martin Bourke, for being the owner of cattle found wandering and impounded.—Fined £l. and costs 10s. Two residents were charged with (1) consuming liquor after hours at the Criterion Hotel; and (2) being found at the Criterion Hotel after hours. A third was charged with consuming liquor after hours at the Criterion Hotel. The charge against one for consuming liquor was dismissed. On the charge of being found on the premises after hours he was fined £l, with costs. The other was fined £2 on the charge of consuming liquor, and 10s on the other charge. The third w’as fined £2. The licensee, William Henry Liddicoat, pleaded guilty to selling liquor after hours, and to selling liquor to a lodge:, otherwise than in the manner prescribed. On the first charge he was fined £2O with costs, and on the second charge he was fined £2 with costs. Three other charges against him were withdrawn by leave. At the Warden’s Court, Martin Lawrence O’Malley and Everard Eager were granted a coal lease over 21 acres in Blk, XI, Reefton S.D.
