GENERAL MORGAN RESTORED TO U.N.R.R.A. CONTROL
(Rec. 11.5) WASHINGTON, Jan. 30. Mr Lehman, head of U.N.R.R.A., announced that it has been decided to restore Lieutenant-General Sir Frederick Morgan to duty as Chief of the U.N.R.R.A. operations in Germany. “In view of all the circumstances, I have concluded that I am justified in continuing to place confidence in him,” said Mr Lehman. Mr Lehman said he believed General Morgan did not intend to impute sinister motives to the individuals or organisations who were seeking to improve displaced persons’ sorry plight. General Morgan also did not hold religious prejudices. General Morgan, in a letter to Mr Lehman yesterday; said: “I reject utterly any suggestion that I am anti-semitic. I most stoutly deny that I had, or have, any intention of imputing to any individual or group any sinister motive. My sympathies are entirely with our displaced persons, irrespective of their religious convictions.”
