Miss Rita Dobson, of Westport, is visiting her sister, Mrs D. Scott, of Runanga. Mr and Mrs J. H. Logie, Christchurch, are visiting Westport. Mrs Logie formerly lived in Reefton. Mr and Mrs T. Higgins, senr., who have been visiting Westport, will leave to-day on return to Whangarei. Mr Andrew Cumming, a former I resident of the Seddonville district, who has been visiting Westport, has left on return to the North Island. Miss V. Phibbs has resumed work on the staff of Mr M. B. Scully, of Westport. Mr E. Phibbs has been engaged to give a running commentary on the races at Westport on Saturday and Monday. HORSES ARRIVE. Horses have begun to arrive in Westport, for the week-end race meeting. Those which arrived yesterday were: Rosewarne’s three, Hogan’s three, Cox’s three, Barr’s four, and i Stove’s one. REGIONAL PLANNING COUNCIL. I WESTPORT, January 29. At a meeting of the Buller-Inanga-hua Regional Planning Council, held at the Council Chambers, Reefton, yesterday, the following were present: Messrs J. M. Robertson (Mayor of Westport), chairman; J. Ward, J. McGregor, F. J. O’Regan, Hamill, C. Buist, F. W. Archer, B. J. Mathewson, W. Humphries, A. Hunter, Bolitho, G. Williams, J. Patterson, H. W. Gibbie, D. L. Reid, A. W. Bell, C. Coxall, R. R. Dawber, J. Powell, W. Gourley, F. Connew, and R. C. Baker (secretary). Mr Coxall welcomed ail members to the meeting. Proposals for ail works to be carried out in the Buller and Inangahua districts were submitted for the confirmation of the meeting and for forwarding to Tie Commissioner of Works through the Works Department. representative (Mr R. R. Dawber). The works proposals of the Buller County Council, Westport Borough Council, and Inangahua County Council were discussed and confirmed by the meeting. NATIONAL SAVINGS. National Savings investments for the week ended January 26 in the Buller district were: Westport £10? 11s (weekly quota £265); Denniston £l4 10s (£29); Granity-Millerton £ll 16s (£51); Karamea £lO 16s (£13); total £139 13s (£358). CARPENTERS’ UNION MEETS. A well-attended meeting of the Westport Sub-branch of the N.Z. Carpenters’ Union was held on Monday night. The Secretary of the Westland Branch, Mr. J. E. Laing, presided. The following officers were elected:—Sub-Branch President, Mr. W. Marshall; Vice-President, Mr. T. J. Atkinson; Committee, Messrs J. E Sara, G. Lamont, A. N. Harder, P. S. Gibbons, L. J. Hawes. It was decided to leave the appointment of a branch secretary in the hands of the committee. Several new members from the Rehabilitation Training School were welcomed and the history of the aims of the Union explained to them. It was resolved that the Union take up the matter of timber shortage with the Minister of Housing, and endeavour to obtain increased supplies ( for local builders. HOLIDAY RUSH OVER With the holiday rush easing, there were no air passengers from Westport yesterday and there were no arrivals by air on Monday.
