POLISH JEWS

Repatriated from Russia BUT MIGRATING INTO GERMANY. (Rec. 5.5) LONDON, Jan. 29. ■ The “Daily Telegraph’s” Warsaw correspondent states: A mass migration started of one hundred and fifty thousand Polish Jews. The majority of them are going to western Germany. These Jews are ones who have been repatriated from , Russia to Poland. Already ten thousand of these Jews have reached east Poland.

These figures were released by a Jewish central committee, which had been advising the Jewish repatriates from Russia to stay in Poland, and to re-settle in German territory. One member of the Jewish committee admitted that most of these migrants will undoubtedly filter into the British zone or the American zone in Germany during the next 12 months. The Jewish central committee launched an appeal to the Jews throughout the world for help in relief work, but the committee states that thusfar the Jews abroad have not sent one cent to Poland. Second-hand clothing only has been given, but some of it is useless. Doctor Zalman Gruenberg, President of the Council of Liberated Jews in the United States zone, speaking at the Congress of liberated Jews, in Munich, said that if the property the Nazis stole from the Jews were returned to them, all the world’s relief organisations could be financed from it, and there would still be a surplus. He advocated the creation of an international passport for all homeless, stateless Jews. He appealed to the Big Three to recommend the recognition of Jewry. Remnants of the Jewish people had been saved from Nazism, but they were far from liberated.
