CITIZENS NOT BRITISH SUBJECTS (Rec. 7.40) DUBLIN, Jan. 28 Mr. Eamonn De Valera, Eire President, in a speech at Waterford said: “It is an impertinence to call Eire citizens British subjects. We are an independent Republic, acknowledging no Sovereignty, except that of our people. We have our own constitution. No citizen of Eire owes allegiance to Britain or to the British Crown.” Mr. De Valera said that Eire’s new constitution which was passed in 1937, made the position .perfectly clear.
