[Our Own Correspondent] HOKITIKA, Oct. 9 Yesterday whitebait were caught in Mahinapua Creek, one catch being forty tins, but in the river the best one was a few pints. • An Okuru fisherman yesterday sent word for the plane to come down to lift a catch of 400 lbs., but by the time the plane arrived, the fisherman had secured SCO lbs., and the plane had to make two trips. Four tons of whitebait was railed to Christchurch yesterday, and to-day a large quantity was sent by the express en route to Wellington.

To-morrow night the local Revue Company’s “Atomic Moments” will open at the Princess Theatre the proceeds being for the Plunket Society. A rehearsal on Monday proved the revue to be up to the former high standard, the frocking, scenery, and lighting being bright and colourful.

The local branch of the Canterbury Mountaineering Club at its annual meeting elected the. following officers: —President, Mr. L. Boote; Secretary-Treasurer, Mr. J. Chanman; Committee, Messrs G. About 150 friends' gathered at Arahura Pah last week at the invitation of Mr. and Mrs. Opene Meihana to welcome home their soldier son, Henry. The large gathering were entertained in a specially constructed hall. Nearly 100 children were also entertained. Addresses were given by Messrs A. R. Elcock (Mayor of I-lokitika) T. Fleming and W. Stephens were the best bowlers. Single men made 166. (Wildbore 60, not out, Stephens 31, Madgwick 16, Agnew 11, Keenan 11, Growcott 10). L. Wells was the best bowler.
