An impetus in the South Westland tourist traffic is indicated in the next few months, one contributory factor being the demobilisation of the forces, many ex-servicemen and women taking the opportunity to visit the glacier regions when the conditions are favourable.

After very heavy showers at Greymouth yesterday, the rain eased off during the night and tempeiatures became warmer. Parliament passed a vote of £160,000 for the cost of roads. ' It brought forward many requests from members for removal of dangerous road rail crossings. Hon. R. Semple said the question of all dangerous railway crossings was being • examined. Mr Semple appealed to members on both sides of the House to let him have a list of works they required done. . Road building and maintenance had been almost negligible during the war, and would have to be overtaken. When a complete list of works was investigated, it would then be known what was most important, and a necessary plan could be formed and carried out without loss of time and wastage.
