EXCHANGE OF GREETINGS P.A. WELLINGTON, Sept. -29 The following message has been received by the Prime Minister (Mr. Fraser) from the Russian Foreign Commissar (Mr. Molotov) on the celebration of Dominion Day-“'Please accept from the Soviet. Government, and from myself personally, congratulations and very best wishes. May I express my confidence in the continued development and intensification of friendly relations between the U.S.S.R. and New Zealand to the benefit of both our peoples.” Mr. Fraser replied; “I thank you for your kind Dominion Day message and can assure you that the Government and people of New Zealand desire most sincerely to work in friendly co-oper-ation with the Soviet people for our mutual benefit and for the welfare of all peace-loving peoples.” HEALTH BURSARIES WELLINGTON, Sept. 27. It is the intention of the Government to award further medical and dental bursaries in 1946, said the Minister of Health (Mr Nordmeyer) to-day. Applications, closing on January 28, 1946, will be called for by advertisement next December, and will be received from two classes of students: firstly, those who have completed the medical intermediate examination and who are about to enter or have „completed one or more years at the Medical or Dental School; secondly, those students who are about to commence the first year of the course leading up to the medical intermediate examination. Students applying for bursaries

will be required to submit full details of then' academic standard. In the first group evidence will be required of the fact that the student has passed the medical intermedin’ examination. Within the second group applications will be open to all those students who have attained the minimum standard of Univers Entrance and who are eligible to be enrolled as medical students in the University of New Zealand. The academic and other qualifications of applicants will be taken into consideration in determining selection for the award of bursaries. As in the past’, each bursary will be available for a maximum period of five years, and will be valued at £7O per annum, with a boarding allowance of £4O per annum where the students is obliged to live away from his home.
