SERIES OF PROMOTIONS Six Retirements PA. WELLINGTON, September 21. A number of retirements and promotions affecting administrative officers of the Railways Department were announced by the Minister of Railways to-day. Officers retiring are: Messrs A. T. Hawken, Transportation Superintendent, Wellington; P. H. Curtis, District Traffic Manager, Wanganui; F. G. Clark, District Traffic Manager, Christchurch; E. J. Chapman, Assistant District Traffic Manager, Christchurch; P. Hy Morey, District Engineer, Christchurch; H. C. Langford, Commercial Manager, Wellington. The following officers are being promoted to fill the vacancies: Messrs S. G. Browett, District Traffic Manager, Invercargill, to Transportation Superintendent, Wellington; F. Gray, District Traffic Manager, Wellington, to District Traffic Manager, Christchurch; L. V. Carmine, Assistant District Traffic Manager, Wellington, to District Traffic Manager, Wellington; W. Pocknall, Assistant District Traffic Manager, Auckland, to District Traffic Manager, special duties, Auckland; A. V. Finlay. Assistant District Traffic Manager, Wanganui, to District Traffic Manager, Wanganui; H. A. Steers, Chief Clerk, Commercial Branch, Wellington, to Commercial Manager, Wellington: J. J. Mitchell, Assistant District Traffic Manager, Dunedin, to District Traffic Manager, Invercargill. The following officers are promoted to be Assistant District Traffic Managers: Messrs R. S. Cochrane (Auckrane (Auckland). R. F. Havle.s (Wellington). C. E. Vigers (Christchurch), F. C. Wilson (Wanganui). T. Johnson (Dunedin). Mr O. J. Doidge (District Engineer, Dunedin), is transferred to fill the vacancy in Christchurch vice Mr P. H. Morey.. Mr W. T. Langbein (Resident Engineer, Greymouth), is promoted to District Engineer. Dunedin. Mr W. E. Puddy (Assistant District Engineer. Dunedin), is promoted to fill the Greymouth vacancy. “Tn view of the large number of important railway works which must be commenced in the near future, and other works wh’ch are under consideration, I have decided to appoint two officers, who will concentrate on this particular phase of the Department’s activities,” states Hon. R. Semple, “and thus expedite the finalising of plans and investigations for these works. Mr H. W. Beasles (District Engineer, Auckland) will be released from hi.s present position, and Mr W. Pocknall will deal with this important work. Mr J. Dow (District Engineer. Wanganui) will transfer to Auckland as District Engineer, and Mr H. C. Stevens (Resident Engineer, Hamilton). is promoted to District Engineer at Wanganui. Mr C. H, Hajvk (Assistant District Engineer, Auckland) is promoted to be Resident Engineer at Hamilton.” _
