END OF N.Z. CONTROLS

PAPER, PAINT AND OTHER PRODUCTS.

WELLINGTON', Sept. 20. By a Gazette notice published tonight four further factory control notices are revoked. The paint control notice also is substantially relaxed. Of the controls administered by the Factory Controller, only eleven, including those over critical commodities such as bicycles, and tyres, now remain operative. ‘ The controls revoked to-night include the Paper (Newsprint) Control Notice, 1941. This was the last of the war emergency restrictions remaining in respect to paper. It restricted the amount of newsprint which might be asked for newspapers and periodicals. Another control revoked is the Gas Producer Manufacture Control, 1940, which declared the manufacture of gas producers a controlled industry. Other revocations. are those of the controls over glass containers manufacture, and ovei’ linseed oil. Control over all the materials used in the manufacture of paint has been also revoked; except for* six items used in the manufacture of synthetic lacquers, which are still in short supply, but it is hoped to lift these restrictions soon.

The Minister said this relaxation of the paint control notice would be of interest to motorists, who have been inconvenienced by an inability to obtain synthetic enamels for ' repainting their motor-cars during wartime. . ’ •
