TO GET WET TIME.. : CLAUSE 5 Agreement at Conference • (Special to “Argus”) WELLINGTON, September 20. The conference which was arranged -• by the Acting-Minister of Labour, ' Hon. J. O’Brien, between the representatives of the timber workers’ ; unions of New Zealand and the representatives of the N.Z. Sawmillers’ ; Federation was held to-day* in Weilington, and' it proved a successful one. ■ " There was an isolation and weather conditions clause submitted for consideration. This provides for the following extra rates of payment for weather and isolation conditions:— • For bush sections, one shilling and sixpence per clay; for the mill section, one shilling per day. The clause was ' granted by the employers. The new clause applies to all bush sawmills, except ninus insignis mills, throughout New Zealand. The new clause takes effect from Monday next. FURTHER DETAILS WELLINGTON,. Sept. 20. A decision to applv, jointly, to the Court of Arbitration for an amendment of the timber workers’ awards, by the insertion of a clause covering the workers in the endigenous bush sawmills and the bush workings, was made at the conference of the employers and workers to-day. Represented at the conference were .the New Zealand Timber Industry Indus- - trial Union of Employers, the New Zealand Timber Workers’ Union, and the Westland Timber Workers’ Union. The new clause will give an increase of 2ld an hour to the bush workers and lid an hour to all -the other workers in the bush sawmills. “This is the outcome of many months of discussion between the two national organisations on the ways of attracting workers to country employment,” said the National Secretary’ of the Timber Workers’ Union, •Mr F. Craig, to-night. “It is hoped that it will result in stimulating timber production.”
