. Check by Truman

(Rec. 8.35). NEW YORK, Sept. 19. President Truman .is acting to arrest the spreading wave of industrial strife in the United States. Mr Truman has ordered a comprehensive reorganisation of the Department of Labour. In this change the National War Labour Board, the United States Employment Service, and the War Manpower Commission have been placed under the jurisdiction of the Labour Secretary, Mr Schwellenach. The latter has immediately 'apnointed Mr Edgar Warren as the new head of the United States “Conciliation Service”, with orders to attempt to reach a negotiated settlement in the threatening Detroit automobile situation.

Mr Truman stated that he did not intend “cracking down” on Detroit or elsewhere until all possible methods of a peaceful, negotiated settlement had been thoroughly explored.
