WEDDING

STEWART—RHODES.

A picturesque spring wedding took place on Saturday afte'rnooii, September 1; at St. John’s Presbyterian Church, when Ngaio Patricia, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Rhodes, Karoro was married to John Rutledge, elder son of Mr. and Mrs. S. Stewart, Shakespeare Street. The Rev. T. G. Campbell officiated and Miss Kit Learmont presided at the organ. The bride, who entered the church on the arm of her father, wore a graceful gown of white georgette featuring a V neckline, the front being softly draped and the back gathered from the yoke, while the circular skirt with basque fell from a narrow beaded waistband, this trimming being repeated in the cuffs of the full bishop sleeves. She wore a beautiful veil of Brussels lace, held in place by a coronet of velvet gardenias and carried a bouquet of orchids, freesias and camelias.

The bridesmaids, Misses Faye and Betty Rhodes, sisters of the bride, ana the flower girl, Betty Marshall, were all three frocked alike in checked voile over taffeta, buttoning from neck to bustle line? at back with long waists and bustle frills, the frills being repeated at neck and on sleeves. Spring green, topaz pink, and lemon were the respective colours. The bridesmaids carried bouquets of freesias, camelias and daffodils, while the flower girl held a basket of spring blooms and all three' wore hair sprays to match.

The best man was Mr. Leo Martyn and the groomsman was Mr. Chas. Watson.

During the signing of the register. Miss Dawn Mullaly sang “Garden of Your Heart.”

On leaving the church the bride was presented with lucky horse-shoes by Betty Marshall and Lyn Roberts. The wedding reception was .held at Harker’s Tea Rooms, where a large number of guests was received by Mrs. Rhodes assisted by Mrs. Stewart, mother of the bridegroom. The former wore a navy and grey model coat, navy hat with up-turned brim, navy accessories and a spray of cyclamen and freesias, while the latter was gowned in a smart saxe blue frock beaded in black with navy accessories. She wore a fox fur and a spray of cyclamen. During the reception items were rendered by Misses D. Mullaly and M. Stewart and Mr. R. Gibbons. Later, Mr. and Mrs. Stewart left by rai|l-car for Christchurch, Wellington and Nelson, the bride travelling in a model tweed suit in blue and black overchecks. She wore a blue georgette blouse, black Arabian toque, with blue chinswathe and black accessories. She carried a fur coat, the gift of the bridegroom.
