Mr R. Thomas left by plane for Wellington yesterday. '

Mr C. F. Wilson, of Wanganui, has been appointed for a further term as a ’member, of the Government Railways Board.

Mr C. E. Alford, following service with the Air Force, has resumed duties with the Money Order Branch of the Chief Post Office, Greymouth.

Mr H McMath, after service with the R.N.Z.A.F., will recommence duties as porter at the Runanga Railway Station on Monday.

Mr C. R. Reynolds, who has been discharged from the Army, will Recommence duties as a cadet at the Greymouth Railway Station on Monday.

Mr Doug. McDonald, who is leaving for Christchurch shortly, was tarev.wlled by members of the Runanga Tennis Club at a meeting last evening. The president of the club, Mr H. Webb, presented Mr McDonald with a fountain-pen on behalf of the club members.

The death of Rev. Dr. John Ernest Holloway, F.R.S., world-famous botanist and sometime lecturer in ootany fox- the University of Otago, has occurred at Timaru. He was born in Christchurch in 1881. . Much of his most important botanical work was done while, as an Anglican clergyman, he was stationed at Hokitika.

The secretary of the West. Coast Rugby League, Mr T. McKenzie, has received advice from the Ne\v Zealand Rugby League to the effect that Mr J. Oakley, of Greymouth has been appointed manager of the Sou - League team to play m Auckland on October 6.
