Mr. J'ustice Northcroft left for Christchurch yesterday morning. Mr. E. Souter left yesterday for Dunedin. Mr. Li Baldock left yesterday to join the R.N.Z.A.F. at Harewood. Advice has been received by Mrs. T. B. Morley, Greymouth, that her husband, W/O. T. B. Morley has been promoted to Pilot Officer. Pilot Officer Morley is serving with the R.A.F. in England. Mr. E. A. Whitlow, of Auckland, has been appointed to represent various railway organisations on the Government Railways Tribunal. It was announced to-day that he replaces Dr. W. B. Sutch, who has joined U.N.R.R.A. in the South-west Pacific. Mr. Whitlow is secretary of the Auckland Tramways Union—P.A. The following are guests at the Albion Hotel; Mr. and Mrs. E. S. Farmers’ Union annual conference:—Dominion president, Mr. W. W. Mulholland GDarfield); vice-pre-sident overseas, Colonel F. Waite; vice-presidents, Messrs A. Briscoe Moore (Whangarei), and K. J. Holyoake (Dannevirke); Dominion treasurer, Mr. W. Horrobin (Waikanae); past president, Mr. W. J. Polson (Stratford).
The death occurred early this morning at Ruru, Otira Line, of Mr. Lawrence Stewart Rankin. Deceased suffered a lengttiy illness and had been a resident in the district for a period of 15 years. He had been employed in the sawmiling industry. He is survived by his /wife, one daughter Mrs. C. Lansdown (Blackball),' and two sons, Peter of Ruru, and; Lawrence, who has been a prisoner of war and who is expected to arrive on the Coast to-day. ( Hon.®F. Jones has announced that Lieutenant Colonel G. E. Archey, Director of the Auckland Museum, has been selected by the South East Asia Command to take up an appointment -as Monuments and Fine Arts Officer in the Civil Affairs Branch in that area. Pie will be leaving New Zealand shortly to take up his new duties. Temporary Captain W. A. Glue of the New Zealand Temporary Staff, is appointed Officer-in-Charge of Archieves at Army Headquarters, according to a notice apearing in last night’s gaz■ette. Lieutenant Colonel P. L. Bennett, D. 5.0., 0.8. E., M.C., Second N.Z.E.F., is loaned to the War Office for special employment under the Allied Control Commission at headquarters, South-west Pacific area, and is to be granted the temporary rank of Colonel, according to the gazette, which also contains notices of the appointment as war correspondents of Mr. S. T. Mahoney and 'Mr. L. McL. Hill.—P.A.
