RETAIL BUTCHERS
SUBSIDY DEMANDS' WELLINGTON THREAT TO CLOSE SHOPS P.A. WELLINGTON, June 26 Dissatisfaction with conditions ruling for retail butchers in the Wellington and surrounding districts was ventilated at a meeting of the Wellington Master Butchers’ Association. One resolution carried unanimously favoured the closing of .butchers’ shops from Saturday next indefinitely unless some relief is forthcoming from the Government. .A deputation which met the Acting Prime Minister (Mr. Nash) and the Minister of industries and Commerce (Mr. Sullivan) to-day was given an assurance that the matter would be thoroughly investigated. A conference between the Wellington and the New Zealand Associations will be held at an early pate with a view to endeavouring to place proposals before the Government. On an assurance by Government members the Wellington Master Butchers’ Association decided not to close their shops as originally intended.
