I Our Own Correspondent! HOKITIKA, May 12. Sergeant Velvin recently returned from overseas and is visiting Hokitika, staving, with Dr. E. J’. Velvin. Dr. D. A. A.rnott, Messrs A. E. Perry and C. H. Chapman are spending a holiday in South Westland. The Gael, which arrived on Friday, with cargo from Wellington, sailed later for" South Westland. Business firms and local authorities lost their decorations on Wednesday and Thursday nights. In some instances expensive flags were taken, and even whole lines of flags. Last week’s peace celebrations attracted the largest crowd seen here since the start of the war. There was a very large procession on Thursday. At a thanksgiving service at the Cenotaph, Cass Square, the Mayor, Mr A. R. Elcock, addressed a large crowd, and expressed thanks for the peace in Europe. Ministers of churches assisted at the ceremony, a number of hymns were sung, and the Municipal Band supplied music.
