CHRYSANTHEMUMS ON DISPLAY. The St. Patrick’s Horticultural Society’s chrysanthemum show, held in the Columba Hall on Saturday, was a huge success. In presenting the trophies, the President (Mr J. E. A McKeefry) congratulated the amateurs on their success. Stressing lhe importance in this respect, he emphasised that primarily the Society was inaugurated for amateurs. The highlight of the show was a display of" every variety of chrysanthemum by Mr W. Buchanan, of Karoro. It was an education in itself on how chrysanthemums could be displayed. The judge for the chrysanthemums ■was Mr, W. Buchanan, v. ho had much difficulty in separating two flowers for the Premier bloom displayed by Mr S. Smith and Mr J. Jackson, finally allotting it to the former by half a point. Other judges were: Pot plants and cut flowers, Mrs R. T. Bush; decorative; Miss N. Murphy; vegetables, Mr J. Bourke; domestic, Mrs L. G. ! Mercer; junior sections, Mr O. Jackson; and native sections, Mr E. H. Kehoe. The McAra challenge cup and the Sutherland challenge shield were won by Mr S. Smith, who also won tiie Mrs J. Barrow and the’ F. Breeze trophies. A pumpkin weighing 451bs was displayed by Mr J'. Dempsey. Results were:— Open Section: Six chrysanthemums, Mr S. Smith 1; three chrysanthemums, Mr S.
