LONDON, May 12 The French authorities promptly quelled disturbances in parts ol North’ Africa on V.E. Day, which started when armed Arab bands marched on Setif and killed. a number of leading French officials and tried to incite the population to demonstrate against the shortage. (Rec. 6.30.)
