TRIESTE CRISIS

YUGOSLAVS SEEK POSSESSION. (Rec.vll.lo). LONDON, May 13. A British United Press correspondent in Rome stated: Marshal Alexander conferred with Professor Botiomi, Prime Minister of Italy, concerning the occupation of Trieste. Presumably Professor Bonomi appealed for the outright Allied occupation of Trieste. Ari Exchange Telegraph correspondent at Rome says: The news from Trieste and the surrounding territory becomes daily more alarming, with reports of wholesale arrests and deportations of Italians by the Yugoslav forces. It is impossible to check the rumours, because of th e Slovene language. Yugoslavs continue to enter the Trieste territory, with armoured cars and artillery, with which they are occupying all - strategic points. A Russian military mission has also arrived in Trieste. No Italians ar e seen in fchg 1 streets. The shops are closed. The food situation is deteriorating. The Yugoslavs have shot many Italians “for displaying the Italian flag. The flag is permissible only if it'carries a red star, instead of ’the Royal arms. A message states that members of the Italian Government, headed by Professor Bonomi, will go to Northern Italy next week to contact the liberation authorities in an attempt to solve the political deadlock. The Archbishop of Gorizia, Dr. Carlo Margotti, was arrested by Yugoslavs. He later was released. He has arrived in Rome, says an Associated Press correspondent at Rome. The Swiss radio says that the Swiss-Italian frontier has been reopened. FIGHTING IN BALKANS. (Rec. 12.5.) LONDON( May 13. The Sofia radio announced that the Bulgarian Army has linked up with the British Bth. Army. A Yugoslav communique says: Our troops advancing towards Austria, occupied Maribor and Brcko. They destroyed German groups still offering resistance. Yugoslav troops on May 10 and 11 killed 2,800 and took prisoner 1,570.
