JOur Own Correspondent! Mrs. N. Hampton and family have left on a holiday visit to Ashourton. Miss June Mosley, Collingwood, is visiting her parents, iMr. and Mrs. C. G. Mosley. Messrs P. J. Darby and N. Hampton who have been visiting Greymouth and Westport returned last evening. ~ „ . Miss B. Hogg, St. Margaret’s College, Christchurch, is spending the school vacation, with Mr. and Mrs. T. R. Hogg. Mrs. Kroupa (Nelson) and her son Terence are visiting Waiuta, as the guests of Mr. and Mrs. W. Maher, Hospital Hill. . , , , . Miss Betty Hocking (Cnnstchurch) is visiting her sister Mrs. J. Purcell. Mr. Pat McGuinness (Greymouth) is among the guests at the Empire Hotel. , . Miss Elua Baran, (Christchurch) is visiting Waiuta. , x Mrs. J. French (Christchurch) is spending a holiday with her parents Mr. and Mrs. M. Jones.

Mr. Ray Bartlett, who has been a resident of the township for a number of years, leaves shortly to reside in Reefton. A suitable farewell function is to be held is his honour at a later date. . The mine ceased work on Tuesday afternoon, and will resume on Monday. At a meeting of the Union, it was decided to reject the company's proposal to pay one day’s pay to employees. Members felt that the Blackwater mines, could have at least fallen into line with other concerns, and granted their employees the two days’ holiday on full pay. The peace celebrations were fittingly carried out locally. Mr. W. Steven, presided, at a thanksgiving service held in the Miners’ Hall, on Wednesday morning, when there was a very large attendance. The hymns, “Abide With Me,” and “Lead Kindly Light,” were sung. A plain & fancy dress ball was held in the evening, when visitors were present from all parts of the district. On Thursday, a procession which left the //up room, and proceeded down High Street to the Recreation Ground was held. There were many fancy costumes, and decorated vehicles. Ihe children were entertained at a fancy dress ball in the evening, and a free picture matinee will be screened for them on Sunday afternoon Sanper Tom Begbie, 2nd N.Z.E.I ~ who ‘recently returned to New Zealand, is spending a holiday here as the' guest of Mr. and 'Mrs. J. Begbie. A farewell social anti dance is to be tendered in the Miners Hal! this evening 'to L.A.C. K. Rodden, R.N.Z.A.F. .
