WAR LOAN

ARRANGEMENTS FOR OPENING DAY. F.A. WELLINGTON, May 11. We have celebrated V-E Day, and now conies another occasion of note for New Zealanders. Monday is Victory Loan Day, when the campaign starts for the purpose of raising the £25 millions of the 1945 Victory Loan, states the National War Loan Council. As this is a national effort it will he inaugurated with a national ceremony centred on Parliament Building steps, but made nation-wide by linking it up with the whole of the Dominion through the national chain of radio broadcasting stations. The proceedings, which start at 12.30 p.m., can therefore be followed throughout New Zealand, and an appeal is made to employers that they should facilitate group listening by their employees during the lunch hour on Monday. The programme, . with a comparatively brief period for speeches, will have many attractive musical items. The band of the Royal New Zealand Air Force is to provide accompaniments for a choir of five hundred children from Wellington’s secondary schools, and this effective musical 'combination will join Miss Ena Rapley in the stirring English song, “Land of Hope and Glory”. Tim National War Loan Council hopes that this will bo a listening opportunitv for thousands of groups of factory employees, and that they will decide at that moment to organise their own Victory Loan effort, fixing an objective, and informing their district loan committee of the help they propose to give.
