EXPORT OPENINGS

Australia Alive to Them (Rec. 11.5) CANBERRA, May 10. Token shipments and samples ot Australian-made goods are to be sent to potential overseas customers as a sten iri building up Australia s post-war export trade. Announcing this in the House of Representatives to-day, the Minister of Commerce, Mr Scully, said that; as the production for war purposes eased, greater quantity of goods would become available for the civilian trade. Mr Scully foreshadowed the despatch to other countries of Australian trade delegations, at a later stage, accompanied by Members of Parliament. It was intneded that token shipments •and samples should be sent only to those markets where there is a possibility of developing post-war trade. The goods to be despatched would have to conform with high standards of quality. Mr Scully said that while the Australian farmers had always been 1 export-minded, the same could not be said for those engaged in the secondary industries. The increased output during the war had led to a marked reduction in production costs, and the manufacturers should now be able to export in competition with other countries. Arrangements were being made to see that all Australian goods are adequately published abroad.
