Barrytown, were recent visitors to the township. _ To-night the Soldiers Entertainment Committee will tender a welcome home at the Miners’ Hall to Sanner T. Cockerell, Pte. S. Hayward, and T/S'ergt. R. D. G. Robertson. The annual meeting of the Waiuta Soldiers’ Entertainment Committee was held on April 12, with a large attendance. The balance-sheet was adopted as satisfactory. It was decided that a public meeting be called to arrange for forthcoming peace celebrations. During the past financial year live consignments of soldiers parcels were sent to local overseas soldiers. The following officers were elected: President, Mr J. E: Allen; secretary-treasurer, Mrs T. R. Hogg; assistant secretary, Mr R. Morrissey. The annual meeting of the Waiuta R.S.A. was held on April 11. The bal-ance-sheet was adopted as satisfactory, and the following officers were elected: President, Mr J. E. Allen; vice-president, Mr O. Gadd; secretary, Mr’C. C. Mosely; treasurer, Mr F. Dean; trustees, Messrs H. Gordon, F. Dean. J. E. Allen; Stewards, G. Brown and R. Davis; committee, Messrs F'. Goldsworthy, H. Scott, H. E. Le Comte., H. Dower, R. Davis and D. Jobling. The annual meeting of the Waiuta Women’s Institute was held this week and was well attended. The balancesheet was presented and adopted as satisfactory. The following officers were elected: President, Mrs F. Dean; secretary, Mrs G. Ward; vice-presi-dent, Mrs W. Lines, senr. The committee was re-elected. The roll call, “My most embarrasing moment”, caused a lot of hilarity. The hostesses were Mesdames Dean and Ward. Ah informal reception was tendered to T/Sergt. Bert. Robertson on Thursday evening at the Women’s Institute Hall, Mr and Mrs H. Courtenay extending a welcome, and the health of the guest, and his wife was toasted. The evening was spent in dancing, music being,supplied by Mesdames S. Ramsden, R. Robertson and Mr E. Foulsham, and vocal items were rendered by Mrs Ramsden and Mr Gordon Stephens. Wandering stock have been causing damage to fences and gardens in the township lately. Residents are thinking of sending for the Blackwater Poundkeeper to control the offending animals
