’FRISCO CONFERENCE

POLISH AND OTHER ISSUES. AMERICAN DELEGATION’S DISCUSSION. (Rec. 10.40.) NEW YORK, April 19. Mr. Stettinius (Secretary of State) announced that the United States delegation have reached agreement on all major problems regarding the San Francisco Conference, reports the “New York Times’s” Washington correspondent. However, well-in-formed circles say the delegates have not yet fixed their course regarding trusteeships for the Pacific islands; the voting procedure in the Security Council; and the Polish Government problem. These issues still are in a fluid state. They may be settled at the meeting of the Big Four ForeignMinisters in Washington this weel> end. Messrs Truman, Stettinius, Stimson and Forrestal are reported to have discussed the trusteeship issue to-day, and to have adopted a formula for the protecting of United States’ vital interests. It is learned that Messrs Forrestal. and Stimson have been attending the American delegates’ meetings for the past few days. It is understood they have turged the delegation not to commit itself to any formula for exacting the surrender of island bases that may be considered essential for American security. As a result the delegates are believed to be unlikely to endorse a formula for international control of such islands. (Rec. 12.40.) WASHINGTON, Apr. 19. Mr. Harriman (U.S. Ambassador) ■ and Admiral Sir Clark-Kerr (British Ambassador) arrived here from Moscow in a Liberator ’plane. The flight took 29 hours 20 minutes, cutting off seven hours from the previous record between the two capitals.
