PAY INCREASES

For All N.Z. Forces WELLINGTON, April 1. The Minister of Defence, Hon. F. Jones, stated to-day that pay increases for members of the armed forces announced by Mr< Fraser on March 3. applied as equally to the Navy and Air Force personnel as to the Army. In his opinion, the Prime Minister’s statement made that quite clear, and he was at a loss to understand why some, doubt should now be cast on whether increases were to apply also to the members of the Navy and Air Force. Mr Fraser had said that, while every effort would be made to arrange payment as early as possible, there was a considerable amount cf detail work ne.esa.'ry, and su.n - “ time would elapse before r !, y-r.-.ent could be made in all eases. Some delay had taken pltoe. Mr Jones Edited, but there had never been any question of the increases not applying also to Navy and Air Force personiiel. In then 1 rises, too. the pavments would be reirosj.ective to June 30. 19'14. It was only a question now of completing the adjustments involved. Every effort was being made to meet the position, and payments would be made as soon as possible. Those entitled to increases would not lose anything by the time taken to make the adjustments of pay and dependants’ allowances.
