WATAROA NOTES

[Our Own Correspondent] Rev. Father O’Gorman has returned from his arduous trip to the far south, after haying travelled as far as the Cascade district and Red Hills. Some of the journey was done on horseback, some by car, and some by ’plane, while a good deal of it was done on foot. It is many years since a priest has gone out into the backblocks to contact isolated members of his flock. Hardly one fine day was experienced during the whole of the trip, but nevertheless Father O’Gorman still carried his bright and cheery smile, when he returned to Wataroa. The Rev. Mr. Williams, Wataroa, officiated at the wedding on Saturday morning of Mr. David Vincent and Miss Phyllis Taylor. After the ceremony, Mrs. Vincent, Senr. and Mrs. Taylor entertained over 100 guests at the Sawmill Hall, when the customary toasts were honoured. Mr. and Mrs. Vincent left later by ear for Christchurch, where their honeymoon will be spent. At night a dance was tendered by Mr. and Mrs; Taylor in honour of the event. During the evening the chairman, Mr. D. Eyles made a presentation to Mr. Taylor, who suitably replied. Other speakers were Messrs J. Curtain, A. Clark, T. Nolan and J. McKenzie. Messrs C. Donnelly and R. Stevens supplied the music. An enjoyable and happy evening concluded with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.”
