INCREASE OF WAGES

WILL COMMODITIES FOLLOW ? P.A. NEW PLYMOUTH, March 19. The opinion that the Arbitration Court, in its pronouncement on wages, appeared to be guided by the findings of the Committee of Inquiry into the wages of railwaymen, was expressed to-day by Mr. W. J. Mountjoy, Secretary of the Wellington Employers’ Association. Mr. Mountjoy was one of the three representatives of the employers to give evidence before the Court recently. “Just where all of these increases in wages will end, is a difficult prdblem to' solve,” said Mr. Mountjoy. '/‘With additional wages and costs, there must necessarily be requests for increases in the prices of commodities which, i n effect, the past policy of the F'rice Tribunal has caused retailers and others to carry. •TOfe is a limit to that which business people can carry, and the effect appears to be that there may be increases in the cost of liv.ng. Business people and manufacturers should have the same right of consideration as that accorded other sections of the community.
