EASTER HOLIDAYS

FOR TIMBER WORKERS. PA. WELLINGTON, March 19. In a statement, to-day on behalf of the Minister of Supply and Munitions, Mr Nordmeyer said, war exigencies did not require any interference with holidays, to which sawmill workers were entitled. Consequently provision was made under a recently gazetted sawmilling industry (Easter Holidays) notice, for the suspension ’of directions requiring a forty-eight hour week, to be provided for in the sawmilling industry, so that employers and workers may cease work, not earlier than the usual closing time on March 28 and resuming not later than the usual commencing time on April 4 Any employer or worker who desired to cease work earlier, or recommence later than those dates, must receive the consent of the regional timber controller concerned. Consent would be given in all cases where workers desired to take holidays to which they were entitled, under the Annual Holidays Act, 1944.
