REDUCED SUGAR RATION From Monday, 19th March, the household sugar ration becomes lOozs. per week instead\ of 12ozs. Commencing with coupons '2l to 24, the four-weekly consumer ration will thus be 2Mbs. instead of 31bs. Special Coupon YB, however, will remain redeemable for 31bs of sugar until it expires on 31st March. Sugar allocations for hotels, restaurants and manufacturers have been reduced by 20 per cent, and by 25 per cent, for bakers and pastrycooks. Any such consumers who have already received their sugar permits at the old rah? for the four weeks commencing 19th March should reduce their consumption to the new level and carry forward sufficient stocks to offset the double reduction which will be necessary in the subsequent period. NO REGISTRATION OF CONSUMERS Consumer registration has been abandoned and, from 19th March, sugar may be purchased from any licensed retailer on surrender of the current coupons, which the grocer will CUT from the ration books. PROCEDURE FOR RETAILERS Coupons must be cut from ration books and not merely cancelled. To obtain permits for period 19th March to 15th April apply on Form F.R. 3A as usual, giving the number of registered customers as on 18th March. * , To obtain permits for subsequent periods, apply every fqui’ weeks, as in the past, on Form F.R. 3A, forwarding with it coupons surrendered by customers during the previous fourweekly period. The coupons should be enclosed in the special coupon envelope. Pending the reprinting of Form F.R. 3A, • the column at present headed “Number of special coupons enclosed” can be used to record the number of coupons forwarded. Replenishment of supplies will be authorised, as in the past, to the nearest bag or half-ton lot.! v Retailers in general are authorised to hold six weeks stock of sugar, except that, in isolated districts where transport is infrequent or erratic, they may hold up to four months stock. They are required to account for their stocks by declaring them every four weeks. It should be noted that there is no change in the registration system for butter.
