WATAROA NOTES

(Our Own Correspondent] The marriage of Miss Phyllis Taylor and Mr. Dave Vincent takes place here on Saturday morning. M.r James Jamieson has acquired a new bus for the conveyance of the school children. Mr. Jamieson is to be congratulated on his enterprise, as the bus is much more roomy, and more comfortable to stand in, than the previous one. An enjoyable social evening was held at Mr Cliff Routhan’s residence to celebrate the 21st birthday of Mrs. Routhan. The evening was spent in singing and dancing. Messrs Roy, Stevens , and Frank Graham supplied the music, and a dainty supper was served by the ladies. Owing' to river erosion on the north bank of the Wataroa river, near Parker’s Creek, it will be necessary lo make a new deviation on the main highway. The season for farmers as far as the weather is concerned, has been one of the worst for yjea'rs. As a result of continuous rain, ploughing, and other farm work is well behind schedule.

A birthday party for Mr. D. Green was held at his residenc during the tveek. The ev'ening was spent in singing and cards, and a very enjoyable time was had by all. Mr. M. D. Caffery, was in the district during the week buying cattle for the freezing works. A large number of stock were disposed of, which will be driven to Ross, and then railed to Canterbury,. It is understood that the proposed fish canning factory at Okarito is to be gone on with.- It will be beneficial to have the factory handy to the source of supply, as the fish can be canned, soon after they are caught. This gives whitebait and other piscatorial delicacies a more palatable flavour.
