[Our Own Correspondent], Mr. John Meikle, President of the Dredge Workers’ Union, left for Christchurch, where, with Mr. T. Laing, the Secretary of the Union, lie is to argue the case for a new award, before the Arbitration Board. Miss Jane Aylward left on Thursday on her return to Dunedin to continue medical studies at the University. Mr. R. Clark is spending annual leave in Christchurch and Timaru. Mr. Wm. Adamson, who attended the funeral of the late Mr. J. Goddard at Caro, has returned. Mr. and Mrs. A. Kennedy and family, who have been visiting Wellington, have returned. Mrs. W. Harding has entered the Grey Hospital for treatment. Mrs. Bateman, Senr., accompanied by her daughter, Mrs. W. Smith and fam'ly, of bunollie, spent last weekend here as the guest, of her son and oaiighter-Jn-li;;; Mr. and Mrs. J. Bateman. , Mr. Edgar Thomson, of Ohai, has been spending a short holiday here, as the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Lyng. The death of Carrol, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs.- Syd. Lester, of Stafford Street, took place at the Grey Hospital on Monday morning, after a short illness. The sympathy of everyone will be extended to the parents. The local Masonic* Lodge held their annual picnic at Mr. Burr’s farm at Ngahere last Sunday. All present enjoyed the outing, although some participants in the sports events seemed very stiff on Monday morning. At the bowling championships four .Blackball Club members have been taking part, Messrs J. Rarity, K. Mountford, AV. Hayes and E. F'ascoe. A swimming carnival was held at the school baths, under perfect weather conditions, last Sunday, and brought the usual large crowd of over twenty swimmers from Greymouth, under the leadership of Mr. W.
