NZ SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIP. CANTERBURY DEBATES P.A. CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 23 A motion from the Canterbury Swimming Centre that the New Zealand Council should reconsider its • decision to hold the National Swimming Championships from January 27 instead of January 23 (as first decided) was rejected at a council meeting to-night. It was agreed that under the War Emergency Regulations, the meeting should be conducted for the council by the Wellington centre at Wellington. A special meeting of the Canterbury centre had been held earlier in the evening, when, the secretary, . Miss D. Brown, - resigned from the secretaryship of the New ' Zealand ■ championship meeting on the ground that the Council on Tuesday evening had not acceded to the centrt’s re- i quest that the dates remain unchanged. The Canterbury centre decided not to conduct the championships if they were to be held on any dates other than those first decided by the council. « “The action of the Council is unwarranted and is in the form a vote of no confidence in me,” said. Miss Brown. “Since it does not recognise that my statement of the difficulties of changing dates at this Stage are . true, and. as my services to swim- ■■ ming are worthy of no better treatment than this, I can do no .other than to resign.” Miss Brown said;J?ii« . had not yet decided whether to resign as Canterbury Centre secretary. A motion by Mr. J. W. Bourne. » that the centre should resign as a . whole was lost and a motion of no, , confidence in the Council was withdrawn in favour of Mr. J- MacKenzie’s suggestion that the Council be ■ asked to revert to the original .dates. .
