WATAROA NOTES

[Our Own Correspondent]. The Wataroa aerodrome is being mowed and otherwise attended to by Public Works... Department, and during recent weeks has been showing a fine surface of pasture. Local residents are among those frequenting the saltwater bathing pool at Okarito, which should become a popular holiday resort. A fine pure bred Hereford bull from the run of messrs Williams Brothers at Weheka has recently been purchased by Mr. A. Mcßride of Wataroa. A yearling Aberdeen Angus bull has been purchased from Messrs Gibb Bros, by Mr. T. Nolan, of Wataroa and these cattle are of a good fattening type, and should do well in this district, which is noted for its stock. Mr. Thomas Ca'sey, caretaker of the white herons during the nesting reason has taken up residence at Roto Creek, where the birds are now nesting and rearing their families. Whitebaiters here anticipate sending their catches to the cannery of Mr. A. Thompson at Bruce Bay since the closure at Hokitika of Irvine and Stevenson’s factory. Mr. Jas. Kelly, who some months ago was irijured at Wataroa, and who is a patient at the Westland Hospital, is showing a definite improvement in hip condition.
