"THE WEST COAST INDUSTRIAL WORKER”

(To the Editor). Sir,—Thank you for sufficient of your valuable space to refer to a report appearing in the current issue of the above monthly paper, of the timber workers’ annual meeting. As an election takes place at an early date, it is essential that the timber workers should know that the report whether intentionally or not, is such as to create the impression that I was working on Union day, whereas the truth is, as stated at the meeting by the mover of my nomination, Mr Robinson, and seconder, Mr Topp, that I was confined to bed through sickness, and off work for over a fortnight. Mr Turley, as secretary, knows that there is no delegate representing the timber workers who is more conscientious than myself, and my attention to the economic and social welfare of all workers is reflected in the fact that I was elected President of the Westland Trades .and Labour Council and Vice-president of Westlang Labour Representation Committee. I trust that the publication of this statement will dispel any false impressions created by the report referred to. I am, etc.. CHARLES ELLY. Gladstone, November 17.
