CONFERENCE DECISIONS ON LAND QUESTIONS P -A. WELLINGTON, Nov. 9 ine Labour Party conference today after hearing the report of its Land and Agriculture Committee, unanimously adopted a remit, as follows:—“That the Government be complimented on its policy of assisting the farming industry in so many, valuable, ways, which policy nus made possible the New Zealand farmers’ splendid record of wartime production.” The following remits endorsed by ,th e conference included:— “That reafforestation and the control of indiscriminate burning be given full attention, for the prevention of soil erosion.” Anotner portion of the same remit which was before the committee was:—“That the unearned increment in land b e returned, to the community.” The Committee’s recommendation v/as that, while it endorses the principle, involved in th e remit, it considered that the matter should be held over while the Land Sales Act, 1943, was in operation. The conference adopted this recommendation. It was decided to refer to the Nat- i ive Affairs Department, for favourable consideration, a remit to the effect that Maoris be given a settlement on Maori long-term lease lands, the leases of which are about to expire.
