LONDON, Nov. 8 Flying Fortresses’ and Liberators made attacks on Meresburg and Rheine. Five bombers and 24 fighters had not returned. The majority of fighters returning home after talcin friendly territory. Several groups of fighters returning hme after taking bombers over the targets attacked ground targets from tree-top level destroying or damaging 60 locomotives, 90 railroad cars, 16 motor vehicles, eight ballons and four barges. Lancasters, escorted by fighters attacked the synthetic oil plant at Hamburg, in the Ruhr, on Wednes-. day, while 350 Fortresses and Liberators of the Eight Air Force attackea Leuns synthetic oil plant at Merse■berg, and railway yards at Rheine, north-west of Munster. Heavy bombers were escorted to the cloud-cov-ered targets by over 850 Mustangs and Thunderbolts. (Rec. 9.50.) LONDON', Nov. 9. One bomber and one fighter are missing from Wednesday’s R.A.F. attack on Homberg. Australian Norwegian, R.A.F., Beaufighter and Mosquitoes on Wednesday attacked two medium sized merchant vessels entering a fiord off the western coast of Norway.
