[Our Own Correspondent]. WESTPORT, September 21. Hon. W. H. Mclntyre returned from Nelson yesterday. Mrs W. S. Kerr and daughter, of Christchurch, have been visiting Mr and Mrs P. Morgan. When a ladder on which he was working broke, Mr J'. Kelly, plumber, fell on to a' concrete floor, sustaining bruises and shock. It was not known last evening whether any bones had been broken. When she slipped and fell on a step, while visiting relatives here on Tuesday, Mrs J. Sorenson, an inmate of the O’Conor Institute, suffered a broken thigh. She was admitted to the Buller Hospital, her condition yesterday being reported as fair. Nelson Education Board has decided to grant the Inangahua Landing School Committee £27 10s towards the draining of the placing area at the school. An investment of £lOOO in the Victory. Loan has been made by J. W. Fair Ltd., Westport. At the annual meeting of the Buller Owners’ and Breeders’ Association the following officers were elected: President, Mr J. During the same period 153 tons of Charleston coal and 48 tons of general goods were railed from Westport, while 383 bobby calves were consigned to the East Coast. Goods revenue amounted to £278. The Kaimai is loading coal for Wellington. The Titoki arrived to-day, c*nd loads for Castlecliff. The Kartigi is due to-morrow from New Plymouth to load for Auckland. Mr W. F’. Dickson, of Tauranga Bay, on Tuesday, September 12, picked up on the beach a bottle containing a note to the finder, and a letter for a girl called Alison. The finder was requested to forward the letter lo an address on the envelope. Unfortunately water had entered the bottle and the address was undecipherable. The note for the finder, which may have been signed Fte. Lea, said: “Would you be so kind as to post this letter. It is for a little girl who is very keen to receive a letter by ‘Bottle Post’. Would you be so kind as to fix a stamp on it and send it to the address on it. Just put it in a letter-box as it is and yfc>u will bring joy to the little girl. Thank you very much for this favour.” The letter for “Alison”, dated “on the Pacific”, 26/6/41, 10 p.m., mentioned Brandon’s Rock and Newlands, and was signed “J’ack”.
