LOur Own Correspondent!. HOKITIKA, September 21. Mr Meyer, of the Bereau of Inaustry, visited Hokitika this week, ana returned to Wellington on Friday. Mr E. G. Benjamin, a resident or Wellington for the past 40 years, arrived in Hokitika on Tuesday even- . ing, and is staying with his brother, Mr A. Benjamin. Mesdames Haldane and Lamplough, members of the Women’s Division 01 the Farmers’ Union, will visit Hokitika and South Westland, arriving on Wednesday, September 26, and meetings of women will be addressed at various localities. . The proceeds of the recent indoor “race” meeting for prisoner-of-war parcels were over’ £9O. The Mayor, Mr A. R- Elcock, presided at a meeting of the Victory Loan Committee, when it was reported that a postage stamp exhibition would open in Hokitika on September 26 in Griffin and Smiths buildings, Weld Street, and that Messrs H. C. Rowe, M. H. Houston and A. Walters would visit the country areas m the interests of the loan, and arrangements would be made for a delegate to visit South Westland. At the Magistrate's Court yesterday before Mr G. G. Chisholm, S.M., fines for allowing stock to wander were imposed as follows: C. Montague ss, costs 10s; L. S. Liddicoat 10s, costs 10s- A W. Stopforth 7s 6d, costs 10s; P. Coyle 10s, costs 10s. The Borough Ranger proceeded against three persons for tethering cows in the Borough of Hokitika. M. Moynihan pleaded guilty and was ordered to pay 10s costs; Andred Rennie Wells,,did not appear, and was., ordered to pay 10s 'costs; while Albert Cooper, who pleaded not guilty and maintained his cow was tethered in a swamp, was ordered to pay, 10s costs. For having no warrant of fitness, Gordon Jack fined 15s with 10s costs, and Robt. Francis, Ltd. £1 with 10s costs. For operating unregistered' radios, D. G. Tainui was fined £1 with 17s costs, and John F. Andrews 15s with 10s costs. For using an unregistered motor-cycle, Gordon Davidson was fined ss‘wKh 10s costs. J. D. Hutchison was fined £1 with 10s costs, and £2 2s solicitor’s fees for failing to re- ' port a forest fire to the nearest Forest Ranger. Similar informations against O. J. Hutchison and the Ka-nieri-Hokitika Sawmills were withdrawn.
